John Samuel Pughe
John Samuel Pughe was a Welsh-born American political cartoonist best known for his long-running work with Puck magazine. Early in his career, he illustrated news stories for the New York Recorder, Brooklyn Life, and the Brooklyn edition of the World, building a reputation for sharp, narrative-driven drawings.
In 1894 he joined Puck, then one of the most influential humor and satire magazines in the United States, and became a regular contributor whose cartoons helped shape public commentary on politics and current events.
He continued producing political cartoons for Puck until his final contribution in December 1908, leaving behind a body of work that reflected the magazine’s distinctive blend of wit, visual ingenuity, and pointed social critique.
